About Us

We can help you grow your family tree

Established in 1969, the Prince George’s County Genealogical Society is the oldest Maryland county genealogical society in continuous existence. Our objectives are to collect, preserve, share and disseminate genealogical knowledge and information, particularly material that deals with Prince George’s County, Maryland. The Society Library housed at 12219 Tulip Grove Drive in Bowie, MD is open every Wednesday 10:00 am to 4:00 pm (except we close at 2:00 pm on the first Wednesday of each month). We have over 6,500 volumes for researching almost our entire country, though our focus is heavily on Eastern states, Maryland counties, and of course Prince George's County especially. We have a large collection of family histories and a very useful map collection. Members may check out books. For more information, call 301-262-2063. If it's not Wednesday, leave a message.

We hold nine meetings a year with speakers who will expand your knowledge and skills and help you solve your genealogical puzzles. We meet the first Wednesday of the month September to December and February to June. Meetings may be in person in our library in Bowie or virtual online. We periodically hold "brick wall" sessions on a Saturday to help you break through with new insights and resource suggestions. We hope you will join us soon. See Monthly Meetings in the menu.
